Gas Detection
Quick and reliable flame detection made easy
Jul 11 2023
Teledyne Gas and Flame Detection have announced the release of the SpyglassTM SG50-F series of flame detectors, a significant advancement the field of fire safety by providing superior performance, reliability, and ease of use. With cutting-edge optics, advanced algorithms, and the incorporation of onboard video in both colour and near-infrared, the SG50-F series is a flame detection system that provides peace of mind with its high level of precision and reliability.
Teledyne's SpyglassTM SG50-F series of open-path flame detectors boast high-definition (HD) video capabilities, enabling the detection of fires that may be invisible to the naked eye. The colour video option excels at detecting fuel fires such as gasoline and jet fuel, while the near-infrared video option excels at detecting fires caused by other fuels like hydrogen and methanol. The inclusion of onboard video empowers operators with remote confirmation of fire situations and provides invaluable insights into fire progression and suppression methods. This critical information enables prompt responses to fire emergencies and helps operators to make the correct, important safety decisions, even from remote locations.
Teledyne's SpyglassTM series products are robust and durable. The housing 316L stainless steel housing meets the rigorous IP66/IP68 and NEMA 250 6P protection rating standards. Within this rugged enclosure, state-of-the-art optic technology and advanced software algorithms work to ensure fast and reliable fire detection. The SG50-F series offers exceptional optical flame detection capabilities, with faster detection times and superior performance even over extended distances. These detectors serve as a cost-effective alternative to deploying multiple line-of-sight point gas detectors, with their associated higher initial costs and maintenance expenses. Notably, they also exhibit industry-leading immunity to false alarms in various challenging environments, even in adverse climates.
With an impressive range of global approvals, including ATEX, FMus, FMc, IECEx, EACX, and SIL2, all SpyglassTM flame detectors operate by analysing the absorption of radiation caused by gases in the atmosphere and comparing it to background atmospheric absorption. The series combines the triple infrared (IR3) and UV-IR options to cater for a variety of applications. The IR3 version is specially designed for hydrocarbon detection, so it is an ideal choice for refineries, oil and gas platforms, FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) systems, petrochemical plants, marine facilities, compressor stations, and turbine enclosures. Additionally, an IR3-H2 option is available for hydrogen and energy transition applications.
For those seeking a comprehensive solution capable of detecting both hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon fires, the UV-IR option is a perfect choice, particularly suitable for battery rooms, ammonia-based applications, and metal-based environments; the UV-IR-F option even caters to the extremely stringent requirements of munitions facilities.
Equipped with configuration and video display software, the SpyglassTM SG50-F series offers a wide range of output options for seamless detector communication, including 4-20mA, Modbus, HART, and relays.
