Environment Agency issues new fines

The Environment Agency has issued fines to those found illegally dumping waste, which can have an adverse effect on soil quality and water quality at these sites.

In the first case, Jonathan Dinham - a farm owner from Bath - was ordered to pay £4,906 in fines and costs for an illegal waste operation in violation of the Waste Management Licensing regulations 1994.

The second case saw landowner Anders Godeseth of Knipes Farm Bungalow in Semley and contractor Gwilym Hopkins of Mount Pleasant Farm, Galhampton fined for illegally dumping builders waste on farmland at Semley in Dorset.

John Crichard from the Environment Agency said: "We need more people to come forward if they believe someone is acting illegally so we can check and take enforcement action if necessary," said John Crichard from the Environment Agency."

Earlier this week, the Environment Agency fined a farmer in the Midlands for allowing cattle slurry to pollute the water quality of the River Swift.
