The emerging availably of 'Big Data' or large datasets represents a challenge for the water industry in terms of assimilating this data with the existing operational data. Existing IT systems and structures are not designed to cope with both the volume and velocity of these datasets. More importantly they do not have the data processing and analytics capabilities to process the data into a form that can readily be integrated into these IT systems and then used for real world applications and...

The 'Cloud' has the promise of tools and services to deliver and promote an effective and efficient operation. This paper will show tangible benefits of Cloud Based Technologies in wastewater pumping monitoring and control. The benefits are shown in a life cycle cost perspective comparing cloud based solutions with traditional monitoring and control installations. Results are based on experience from more than 2500 connected pump stations and other water assets globally.
The benefits of decision support systems for environmental management are often challenging to value, particularly where they include intangible benefits that require a detailed understanding of operating procedures, such as risk mitigation or operational improvements. This paper describes the methodology used to value a cloud-based decision support system for odour risk management implemented at two wastewater treatment plants in England in mid-2016. The system was used for rapid analysis an...
Technical improvements of the leading odour removal concept by implementation of secured network technology for dosage control systems.
Burning coal and other fossil fuels is widely used for generating electricity or thermal heat, but because of the combustion process, particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are released into the atmosphere. NOx and dust are the leading cause of human respiratory issues and government agencies worldwide are releasing stronger regulatory measures designed to reduce air pollution. In countries like the United States, offer NOx trading credits for excess reduction, making it more valuabl...
Aguas de Alicante has developed an online Big Data Solution in Alicante (Spain) to determine water demand in short (6 days) and medium time (12 months). This is an example how a Smart City could use data to improve the sustainability of the city.
NOW ONDEMAND Inorganic anions and cations are major components of drinking water, and are responsible for its unique taste and hardness. However, some components, such as nitrite, bromide, strontium, manganese, and others represent risks to human health when consumed in excess of prescribed amounts. Other components, such as sodium and potassium should be consumed with caution among those at risk for heart disease or allergic reaction. Even fluoride, necessary for healthy teeth, becomes...
NOW ONDEMAND In this webinar, Lumex Instruments experts George Debus and Nikolai Ivanov discuss the advantages of atomic absorption spectroscopy with Zeeman background correction (ZAAS) for the analysis of mercury in complex samples. Determination of mercury in complex samples is always a challenge for the laboratory analysis. This especially applies to soil, crude oil, wastewater, ores, foodstuff, and biological samples. As a rule, these objects are a complex mixture of various organ...
