Biral Contributes to Another Chinese Approved Meteorological System

The VPF-730 Present Weather and Visibility Sensor from meteorological specialist Biral, has been successfully incorporated into Coastal Environmental Systems’ Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS), which has recently received certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

The certification approves the Coastal AWOS, including Biral’s VPF-730, for all airports in China that require CAAC certification for their weather aviation weather monitoring systems.

Nathan Neal, Sales and Marketing Director at Biral commented, “We have a long, successful partnership with Coastal Environmental Systems and supply our sensors to help create some innovative equipment and solutions. We are especially pleased to have contributed to their AWOS that has been approved by the CAAC. This has been a long and detailed process over several years. We now look forward to many more years of successful installations”

Coastal’s sophisticated AWOS provides meteorological observers, forecasters, airport personnel and pilots with continuous weather monitoring information specific to real-time airport weather conditions. Obtaining China CAAC Certification is a significant milestone for Coastal Environmental Systems. This certification enables them to provide its AWOS in China’s fast growing aviation market.

The AWOS is designed to measure, process, store, present and communicate meteorological data from an airfield, providing data to observers ATC controllers and pilots in the form of real-time reports. The configuration and structure of the system can be tailored to meet the demand and requirements of each application, depending on the size and category of the airport.

Biral’s VPF-730 sensors have been chosen by Coastal for this particular contract, as well as previous projects and installations due to their efficiency, reliability and performance. The sensors are a compact and robust package which makes them ideal for aviation applications where strong winds and other damaging conditions are often present. The system is also often used for Runway Visual Range (RVR) equipment as it reports on the quality of visibility on the runways.
