Automation Concepts on Skalar Robotic Analysers

Feb 28 2008

To complement its range of bench top Robotic Analysers, Skalar have recently introduced the SP50 model. The SP50 fits between the SP10 compact analyser and the larger SP1000 with a capacity, for example for BOD analysis of 54 bottles onboard, the SP10 has 32 and the SP1000 has 90. Like the other models, once the analysis of one tray of samples is completed the system will alert the operator that they can remove the finished tray and replace it with another for analysis, thus increasing the run capacity to 400 bottles.
The SP 50 for the BOD determination has the ability to add both nitrification inhibitor and dilution water as required but can also be configured with 2 Dissolved Oxygen electrodes and meters so that 2 bottles can be read simultaneously, thus increasing the throughput of the systemfromapprox. 35 to 70 bottles per hour.
Auto start-up and shut-down, bar code reading and customised
calculations are other features of the SP50. Other applications for the SP50 are pH, conductivity and turbidity in the Water Industry and pH and lime requirements on soil samples. In addition Ion selective electrodes and titrators can be configured with the SP50.
