Wide Range of Application and Reliable Data Transmission

Jan 01 2000

JUMO’s (Germany) BlackLine conductivity cells have been used successfully for many years in the processing of wastewater, service water and drinking water. New items in the JUMO range are the LF4C conductivity cells, which function on the 4electrode principle. This technique opens up areas in which one could previously only use systems without electrodes, i.e. inductive measurement.

These new cells are fitted with two pairs of stainless steel electrodes. One pair measures the current that flows through the solution under test, the second pair measures the voltage applied to the solution. The integrated Pt1000 temperature probe measures the temperature of the medium, and can be used for the temperature compensation of the conductivity signal.

When 2electrode cells are used, five different cell designs are necessary to cover the range up to 200mS/cm.

With the new 4electrode cells, only one cell is required to be able to
make measurements over a range from about 5µS/cm up to 500mS/cm.

Another advantage is that such cells are insensitive to errorcausing
resistances, such as those caused by long connecting cables, dirt or polarization. This means that these cells are ideal for application in the processing of service water and drinking water, HVAC engineering, wastewater treatment and ionexchange equipment.

When combined with the JUMO AQUIS 500 CR, only one measuring cell is required for monitoring the normal operation of an ionexchanger. Automatic switching between ranges means that the same cell and transmitter combination can also handle the reverseflushing procedure, where very high conductivity values can be produced.

All the materials that are employed are physiologically harmless and approved for drinking water applications. The cells can be fitted with either a G½" or an NPT½" process connection, as required. The electrical connection is made by an M12 plug connector. A ¾" thread can be used to adapt the probe for immersion measurements up to 2000 mm.

The new 4electrode cells, combined with the JUMO AQUIS 500 CR transmitter, provide the user with a stateoftheat, userfriendly measurement system. Simple programming through a setup program or the plaintext menu enables problemfree adaptation to the requirements of the measurement setup.
