Rapid Analysis of HON Compounds with SIFT-MS
Dec 03 2024
In response to updated guidance from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Syft has developed robust one-minute sampling methods that leverage the unmatched speed, sensitivity, and ease of use of SIFT-MS technology. These innovative methods achieve exceptional minimum detection limits (MDLs) in the low- to mid-parts per trillion by volume (pptV) range, setting a new benchmark for monitoring toxic VOCs.
SIFT-MS delivers real-time, direct monitoring of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and inorganic compounds in the air. Unlike traditional techniques that require lengthy sample collection and off-site laboratory analysis, SIFT-MS provides immediate and continuous data. This capability captures short-term fluctuations in pollutant concentrations that conventional methods often miss, enabling timely detection of hazardous compounds. With SIFT-MS, organizations can identify sources with precision and respond swiftly to environmental threats, ensuring effective monitoring and safeguarding public health.
The new EPA regulations for fenceline monitoring of HON compounds demand alternative monitoring methods that achieve MDLs at least one-third of the action level for the monitored compounds. SIFT-MS exceeds these requirements with ease. Extending the duration of monitoring enhances MDLs, with improvement approximately proportional to the inverse square root of the method length. This adaptability ensures compliance with regulatory standards while maintaining operational efficiency.
Compared to EPA-specified methods like passive and canister sampling, SIFT-MS offers dramatically superior temporal resolution. This advantage makes it an invaluable tool for identifying sources when concentrations exceed action levels. Governments and industries worldwide have embraced SIFT-MS for its reliability and effectiveness. For instance, South Korea’s federal and state governments have relied on SIFT-MS for years to monitor toxic VOCs, and the U.S. EPA has adopted the technology for use in mobile laboratories.
Syft Technologies is redefining the future of environmental monitoring. Learn more about using SIFT-MS for faster, more precise, and comprehensive air quality solutions that prioritize public health and regulatory compliance.
