The new JUMO (Germany) AQUIS touch P – a compact multichannel measuring device for liquid analysis

JUMO, the measuring and control specialist, is expanding its AQUIS touch series with a compact multichannel measuring device especially designed to be mounted on panels. This one device allows the user to handle measuring, control, recording, and display tasks.

The JUMO AQUIS touch P has a modular design and offers numerous interfaces. Measuring inputs, switching outputs, digital outputs, and analogue outputs can be freely retrofitted and modified in a wide area. The multichannel measuring device has an intended installation dimension of 96 mm x 96 mm, with protection type IP 66 for the front side. The device's great adaptability makes it suitable for an extensive range of applications such as monitoring drinking and bathing water, communal and industrial wastewater systems, process systems, cooling tower controllers, ionic exchangers, RO systems (reverse osmosis), pharmaceutical water, and CIP systems (cleaning in place).

Regardless of whether the measuring task involves the pH value, redox value, electrolytic conductivity, resistance of high-purity water, temperatures, or disinfection measurands (such as free chlorine, total chlorine, chlorine dioxide, ozone, hydrogen peroxide, or peracetic acid), the JUMO AQUIS touch P provides a central platform for displaying and processing the corresponding sensor signals. Two analysis parameters can be directly connected and an additional five can be connected as standard signals. Digital interfaces enable additional eight external measured values to be read in.

Flow rate measurement is also possible. Two frequency inputs are available for flow rate measurement (up to 300 Hz and up to 10 kHz respectively).

The measured values can be converted into standard signals (from 0/4 to 20 mA or from 0/2 to 10 V) or exported via digital interfaces (RS422/485, Ethernet, PROFIBUS-DP) for further processing in a controller such as a PLC. Integrated logic and math modules allow for extensive calculations that incorporate an array of measurement parameters. The results can be displayed again or used for switching tasks.

A 3.5 inch colour monitor with touchscreen displays all the parameters as well as the device operation and settings. The operating language is selectable. Up to 15 languages can be implemented in the language library (which is expandable by the user). These languages include some with Cyrillic characters (e.g. Russian) as well as others with a non-Latin alphabet (e.g. Chinese). Language choice – as well as cUL approval – make the device predestined for worldwide use.

Up to four independent control loops can be defined. Proven JUMO control algorithms are used for P, PI, PD, and PID control. Up to ten switching outputs can be fitted on the AQUIS touch P. The switching outputs can be used to control the pulse frequency or pulse length of such devices as dosing pumps or solenoid valves. These outputs can also be configured as a three-step controller. Single and double relay boards are used as switches. Especially if the switching frequency is high then non-wearing semiconductor switches / PhotoMOS relays are used. Analog outputs (from 0/4 to 20 mA or from 0 to 10 V) are also available. Moreover, alarm and limit values can be programmed by the user for each measured parameter.

Additionally, events can be triggered via time control using two integrated timers (weekly timer). An example here is night-time reduction in controller operation.

With the integrated paperless recorder, up to four analogue and three binary signals can be recorded simultaneously in two groups and then displayed on the screen in their temporal sequence (similar to a paper recorder). The data is stored internally and is protected against a voltage supply failure. Data storage is tamper-proof and enables official record-keeping requirements to be met without additional devices. Stored data can be read out via a PC program using an Ethernet cable or a conventional USB stick. The data can then be further processed with a separate software. Measurement data or device setup data can also be read in or out in this way.

The device can be integrated into a LAN via an Ethernet interface. Data and measured values can also be accessed in this way. The JUMO AQUIS touch P is configured and parameterised with a setup program on a computer.

A Web server function enables remote diagnostics. This means that measured values and the device status can be monitored from any Internet connection in the world using a standard Web browser. The JUMO AQUIS touch P can also send alarms and other messages via SMS text message or e-mail.

To integrate the multichannel measuring device into complex controllers and process systems, a PROFIBUS-DP interface or, optionally, up to two RS422 interfaces with Modbus protocol are available. One of these can also be used as a RS485 interface.
