Prestigious award for product design of new ultrasonic level transmitter
Jul 29 2021
ABB have won The Red Dot design award for an innovative ultrasonic level transmitter offering a high level of precision and optimising industrial water process performance.
The LST200 ultrasonic level transmitter has been awarded for best in category for physical and technical design. The level transmitter stands out for overcoming the surface condensation challenge that will be familiar to industrial plant operators the world over, in which a build-up of water has hindered the precision of vital measurement parameters. ABB’s LST200 operates by utilising new generation, active surface technology called the “Lotus Effect” in which surface condensate falls off before forming larger and potentially problematic droplets and therefore provides a reliable and cost-effective solution.
The Red Dot Award was founded in 1955 and has become a highly coveted prize with over 15,000 applicants from over 70 nations vying for the honour every year. The jury stated, ‘“This robust level gauge impresses with a simplicity that has been thought through down to the last detail. It presents itself as a proven means of ensuring efficiency and reliability.”
ABB’s smart ultrasonic level transmitter measure distances between 2 objects by measuring the time between emission and reception. The LST200 is adaptable to perform successfully numerous industrial applications but it was designed specifically for water and wastewater treatment applications. This ultrasonic level transmitter was designed with simple operation and reliability as its cornerstones. It has a modular design which simplifies maintenance, installation and system upgrades considerably. An integral interference filter ensures that data taken from the sensor is easy to use and analyse.
The LST200 uses adaptive intelligent algorithms which are based on long-term experience data and the integration of the ABB Ability™ Field Information Manager software for the PC, which enhances operators’ configuration efficiency. Thanks to the ultra-stable algorithm, the LST200 can detect and automatically compensate for environmental changes such as temperature, disturbance, measuring distance and signal strength to optimise the performance of this award-winning level transmitter.
