Hygienic, Safe, and Easy to Maintain Thermowells

The new hygienic thermowells for temperature probes are the ideal addition to the JUMO (Germany) product portfolio for measuring points in the hygienically sensitive food and pharmaceutical industry. Their flexible system makes them suitable for all temperature measurement tasks in the industry.

The function of hygienic thermowells is to safely close sensitive processes in the food and pharmaceutical industry. At the same time, the processes must no longer be interrupted or opened for maintenance work and calibrations. As a result, the time and costs spent in assembling/disassembling as well as running plant cleaning cycles can be reduced.

The new hygienic thermowells from JUMO can be manufactured using all standard process connections used in the industry. These include clamp, VARIVENT, CIP-compliant conical seal, and aseptic screw connections according to DIN 11864-1. They are made of 316L stainless steel with a standard surface roughness of Ra ≤ 0.8 µm and can also be manufactured with a surface finish of Ra ≤ 0.4 µm.

The probe tip of the thermowell has been reduced from 6 mm to 3.5 mm, which considerably improves the response time. Ideally, this response time no longer deviates from the standard temperature probe response time. The internal structure of the different temperature probes fulfills the same purpose. Here, a spring-mounted measuring insert is used to only allow a minimal sized air space in the completely assembled temperature probe. As a result, an optimal response time of t90 = 8 seconds can be reached in water.

Depending on the application, all standard temperature probes in the food and pharmaceutical industry can be used as temperature probes. Temperature probes and thermowells are available with predefined standard lengths that are coordinated to each other, as a result of which variant diversity is greatly reduced. This saves on storage costs and simplifies maintenance.
