Acoustic camera technology detects air leaks to ensure safety and save time, money and costs at industrial plant

Feb 29 2024

The use of an acoustic camera has proven to be an invaluable tool for one of the world’s premier pharmaceutical companies that needed to find a rapid, reliable and user-friendly way to detect air leaks at their facilities. Studies have shown that industrial plants lose on average 25% of their compressed air through leakage, at some locations the loss was as much as 80%. These costly leaks can lead to unscheduled shutdowns as well as create dangers for both personnel and assets.

The pharmaceutical firm opted to use a FLIR Si124-LD Plus as an integral part of its maintenance strategy; this has enabled it to avert possible safety problems and shutdowns by detecting air and gas leaks at its plant. Not only has this saved time, money and energy, but it has seamlessly become part of the maintenance cycle and required very little staff training.
