Manufacturer of Measurement Microphones Announces Launch of New UK Subsidiary

As part of its long term strategic growth strategy, Denmark-based G.R.A.S, manufacturer of measurement microphones and related acoustic equipment, has launched a new UK subsidiary, GRAS Sound and Vibration UK Ltd.

Establishing GRAS UK represents a significant expansion for the Danish business and will enable the company to further improve service delivery to its existing customers in the UK. It will also be ideally placed to target previously untapped business across a wide range of markets, including aerospace and automotive.

Ivan Sandager, Sales Director at G.R.A.S. in Denmark comments: “The new UK subsidiary further builds on the international business of G.R.A.S. and complements our existing ventures in the USA, China and Germany. We see it is a major opportunity for G.R.A.S. to further increase market share in the UK. It also reinforces our unrivalled worldwide reputation for product innovation, our ability to interpret the needs of customers and our commitment to ensuring that our products meet both current and future market requirements.”

GRAS UK is headed up by Managing Director, Paul Rubens, who has worked in the field of noise and vibration for many years and has extensive experience of the health, safety and environmental technology markets across Europe, Asia and the Americas.

He previously spent ten years as Managing Director of a global monitoring instrumentation company. Paul now specialises in helping businesses target new markets and has a proven track record in setting up subsidiaries.

The new venture’s Technical Director is John Shelton who has spent 20 years as Managing Director of AcSoft, one of the UK’s leading specialists in noise and vibration instrumentation and sensors. Prior to that, he spent nine years at Bruel & Kjaar UK. John is an active member of the Institute of Acoustics and also sits on several national committees and working groups on measurement and instrumentation.

Emily Howarth is GRAS UK’s Sales Manager. Emily comes from a strong sales and financial administration background and has previously worked in customer facing roles in both the retail and technical sector.

Since it was established in 1994, G.R.A.S. has been totally dedicated to the development and manufacture of high quality measurement microphones. The company was founded by the Danish acoustics pioneer, Gunnar Rasmussen, who has been a major contributor to the world of sound and vibration with his unique ideas and designs.

From the first reproducible 1” condenser measurement microphone that enabled quality measurements and instrumentation for acoustic calibration, Gunnar’s ingenuity and foresight led to the world’s most popular acoustic sensor: the 1/2” measurement microphone.

The 1/4” and 1/8” microphones followed with outstanding dynamic and high-frequency capability that brought higher definition and transparency into impulse noise diagnostics. Many variants have been made available over the years; all based on Gunnar’s original 1” pressure microphone design.
