Cutting-edge syngas analysis for hazardous environments

Aug 28 2024

As industries increasingly turn to renewable and alternative energy sources, the demand for robust and accurate syngas analysis has never been higher. The SWG 100 SYNGAS-Ex Gas Analyser from MRU, designed for continuous syngas monitoring in Ex-Zone 2, is at the forefront of innovation, providing precise and reliable measurements even in the most challenging environments.

The SWG 100 SYNGAS-Ex has advanced features that ensure high performance and safety. The system is constructed with stainless steel piping and housed in an IP65-rated stainless-steel enclosure, offering maximum protection against harsh conditions.

This analyser integrates high-precision infrared measurement technology for CO, CO2, and CH4, and employs thermal conductivity technology designed explicitly for H2 measurements up to 100%. Additionally, paramagnetic O2 measurement is included, enhancing the system's versatility.

The SWG 100 SYNGAS-Ex is suitable for a wide variety of industrial applications. It can sample gas within a pressure range from -100 mbar to +200 bar and features up to six gas sampling points, ensuring comprehensive analysis across multiple locations.

The system includes an integrated gas cooler with maintenance-free condensate removal and is designed with fail-safe mechanisms, like a magnet valve, to halt gas supply in the event of a system alarm. An external power supply box is provided for automatic voltage interruption in hazardous situations, while a % LEL CH4 gas detector ensures continuous monitoring within the analyser housing.

The SWG 100 SYNGAS-Ex is designed to meet the rigorous demands of various industrial applications, including biomass and waste gasification. The process is essential for transforming organic materials into syngas, a critical process in renewable energy production.

This instrument also provides crucial analytical data for coal gasification and liquefaction, vital to producing synthetic fuels and other chemical feedstocks from coal.

The SWG 100 SYNGAS-Ex is also used in pyrolysis and steam reforming, which are key technologies for converting biomass and fossil fuels into valuable gases and liquids. In these processes, precise gas analysis is crucial for process optimisation.

The SWG 100 SYNGAS-Ex is also indispensable for the lab's academic and industrial research settings, providing accurate and reliable syngas measurements.

The SWG 100 SYNGAS-Ex operates efficiently within a temperature range of +5°C to +45°C, with an option for frost protection, extending the lower limit to -10°C. The user interface has a 3.5" TFT display and a 12-key keyboard, allowing easy access to the analyser’s functions. The system supports RS485 communication using the Modbus RTU protocol. A regulated gas pump with a flow sensor ensures consistent gas flow. Its adjustable rates, between 40 and 75 l/h, are tailored to the needs of various applications. The analyser includes multiple alarm outputs and nitrogen purging options, preventing the formation of explosive mixtures within the system.

The SWG 100 SYNGAS-Ex Gas Analyzer is a state-of-the-art solution for continuous syngas measurement in hazardous environments. Its robust construction, advanced technology, and comprehensive safety features make it ideal for industries looking to optimise their gasification processes, enhance research capabilities, and ensure operational safety. As the demand for cleaner and more efficient energy sources grows, the SWG 100 SYNGAS-Ex stands ready to meet future challenges.
