Air monitoring
Start of the BlueCompetition 2013
Mar 30 2013
Scientific workgroups from research institutions all over the world can now register for the BlueCompetition held by BlueSens gas sensor GmbH (Germany). The contest is about the application of gas analysis in Bioprocessing. The gas analysers and software from the German manufacturer can be used in all fields of Bioprocessing for monitoring and analysing metabolic processes in a wide range.
The workgroups will receive the measuring equipment from BlueSens on loan basis for free. After the application phase the teams will have time from June till October to run their experiments in their own laboratories and to complete a project report with their results. An independent scholarly jury will judge the contributed abstracts and will find out the three best groups. As a financial incentive for the teams the total prise money for the award is set to 9,000 Euro.
“This year we would like to bring the BlueCompetition to a larger scale”, explains Dr Holger Müller, one of the managing directors of BlueSens. In the past, really interesting approaches and new methods from various faculties were shown, especially the winning project from 2011 by Stephan Hüttel at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from the University of Saarland, about the optimisation of myxobacterial fermentations with gas analysis. “The BlueCompetition is the corollary of our continuous cooperation with various universities. For us it is very inspiring to support the latest scientific discourses in Bioprocessing”, emphasises Mr Müller.
The application phase of the BlueCompetition is starting now. Scientists and students from the Life Sciences, Biotechnology and other faculties can send their applications to BlueSens from now on. The experiments together with the equipment on loan basis are ideal for students that are going to write their BA/MA theses for instance. Up to 30 scientific teams will be selected to take an active part in the contest. After the application phase this spring the participating groups have time from June till October 21st to run their experiments and to write a short report with their results.
The best reports will be published by the organising company.
