On-Site Oil in Water Measurements Help Ensure Permit Discharge Compliance
Jun 29 2010
Determining total oil in water levels for compliance with governmental regulatory permit requirements for discharging wastewater is a worldwide problem facing all segments of the oil and gas industry. To ensure compliance with these regulations and avoid fines for exceeding permit discharge levels, more frequent wastewater measurements are necessary to determine the total oil/grease concentration. Wilks Enterprise (USA) manufactures portable infrared analyzers that are specifically designed for easy, on-site measurement of the oil/grease concentration and can be easily used by non-technical personnel.
Based on field-proven infrared technology, the InfraCal TOG/TPH Analyzers -- Model HATR-T2 or the Model CVH – depending on the solvent selected for the extraction process – provide accurate, on-site measurement of total oil/grease concentration levels in water. Typical analysis time is 10-15 minutes – including the extraction process. Measurement data obtained with the Model HATR-T2 correlates to EPA Method 1664 and with the Model CVH to ASTM Method D 7066-04 and EPA Methods 413.2 and 418.1.
Over 2,500 InfraCal TOG/TPH Analyzers are currently in worldwide use helping the oil and gas industry analyze produced water on off-shore and on-shore oil platforms, monitor refinery plant wastewater effluents, and discharge levels into treatment centers. They provide the assurance that oil/grease content of the wastewater will meet the various regulatory requirements.
