New White Paper features Solvents for Oil and Grease in Water Measurements
Sep 21 2012
A White Paper entitled, “Solvent Choices for Infrared Testing of Oil and Grease in Water” was recently published by Wilks Enterprise (USA). Infrared (IR) analysis is widely used worldwide for determining the amount of oil and grease in water as it is a cost-effective measurement technique that can be easily done on-site or in a laboratory. Since water is a strong absorber in the mid-IR region where oil and grease is measured, a solvent is used to extract the oil prior to analysis. As there are numerous solvents that can be used for oil in water measurements, it is important to know the various factors that should be considered when choosing a suitable solvent.
This White Paper discusses a number of factors that will affect solvent choice including measurement range of samples, availability of solvent, cost, toxicity, disposal requirements, and flammability.
