Lime Dosing made easy with Verderflex Peristaltic Pumps
Jul 23 2009
The Municipal Water Treatment plant in South Africa have been having problems with their lime dosing pumps. Lime dosing is essential for water treatment where a 10% lime slurry is used to stabilise the ph of the water.
Since the original plant was built, Municipal have used two different types of electric motor driven diaphragm pump for adding the lime slurry to the sludge. In both cases the pumps’ performance was unsatisfactory due to a build up of lime in low velocity areas. This also led to check valve assembly problems and frequent pump failures.
The solution was to install a Verderflex VF40 peristaltic hose pump. With a Verderflex hose pump the only part of the pump that actually comes into contact with the lime slurry is the hose itself. No moving parts ever come into contact so they will never get clogged up. The smooth, crevice free hose allows an even transfer of slurry with accurate and controlled dosing every time. All this and without the maintenance costs associated with the diaphragm pump. In fact the simple design means that the only wearing part of the pump is the hose which is quick and easy to changeover and will expect to run continuously for 4,000 hours without failure. So downtime is kept to an absolute minimum and Municipal Water Treatment have seen a large rise in plant efficiency. See how your treatment plant could benefit from Verderflex Peristaltic Pumps.
