Equipment Used for Flood Warning by Local Fire Brigade
Sep 23 2013
Pessl Instruments GmbH (Austria), are the producer of the electronic decision support systems iMETOS for agricultural monitoring and is well-known in more than 85 countries all over the world for its qualitative equipment. In many West European countries Pessl Instruments became the innovator and the pioneer in risk management and monitoring systems for plant pests and diseases.
iMETOS stations, however, are also used for meteorological monitoring, storm and flood warning. From that reason the local fire brigade in Weiz, Austria developed a special cooperation concept together with the company Pessl Instruments and purchased one weather station and three water level stations. From now on the equipment of Pessl Instruments will help to prevent the events of the August 2009 which happened in Styria. According to its location, climate and landscape the Styrian region is very sensitive to floods which led in 2009 to a real climate catastrophe when the city centre was flooded in one hour and the real estate of many inhabitants was damaged. A flood often starts with the high water of small mountain rivers; that is why iMETOS equipment provides, now for the fire brigade in Weiz, the early recognition and warning about storm and changes in the rivers’ water level. All data and measurements from the weather and water level stations that work autonomously are renewed every 10 minutes and are transmitted through GPRS, these can be seen on the on-line server. In case of bad weather conditions a warning sms is also sent to responsible personnel and can prevent flood damages and also save costs and working time. The inhabitants of the region also have an access to the weather station data in order to take the necessary preventions in case of bad weather.
If you want to learn more about the iMETOS equipment Pessl Instruments will be glad to meet you on the Meteorological Technology World Expo 2013 on October, 15-17 in Brussels at the Booth No. 1010.
