At this year’s Water, Wastewater and Environmental Monitoring (WWEM) conference in Telford, a number of awards were given out for excellence in various aspects of water monitoring. To learn a little more about their products, partnerships and why they came to WWEM, EnvirotechOnline took a walk around the exhibition floor to talk to some of the nominees.
On the first day of the show, we spoke to Victoria Ordsmith, Director of Business Development and Marketing for Microsaic Systems, about the Microsaic’s new remote, real-time screening and monitoring platform for PFAS, which was nominated for WWEM 2022’s Most Innovative Instrument, Product or Digital Solution.
“The PFAS monitoring came about with Microsaic Systems and Modern Water’s collaboration. At Microsaic Systems, we specialise in miniaturised mass spectrometry, more traditional, lab analytical equipment but we have it miniaturised down so we can actually make it more portable and we’ve partnered with Modern Water to expand into the PFAS world at the moment. So, we’ve developed a system, an SPELCMS system, which we’ve put together and then we’ve worked in collaboration with Swansea University, who had a talk earlier today about that, for PFAS method development. So, the system itself will then be put in the Lab in a Van that Modern Water have put together, for remote analysis, so it’s PFAS analysis in real time at the point of need, so it’s basically driving the van round and doing analysis on site instead of taking it to a lab.
Later, we talked about what Victoria sees as the benefits of attending WWEM.
“Initially, we were approached by the organisers and then, with our collaboration with Modern Water who were already down as an exhibitor, it just made sense to join forces. Similarly, Swansea University, who we’ve been working with on the PFAS project, gave a talk in which we were able to showcase the work that we’ve been doing together. In fact, there was a whole PFAS section on the programme, this morning. So, it’s been kind of the perfect place to exhibit.”
In 2024, WWEM will return bigger and better, graduating to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham. For information on exhibiting at WWEM 2024, click here.
