New, advanced clamp-on flowmeters for water, wastewater, and other process industry applications.

The Prosonic Flow W 400 ultrasonic flowmeter is the latest in the series of the cutting-edge Proline range from Endress + Hauser. The W 400 clamp-on and I 400 insertion models offer extensive process monitoring along with long-term cost efficiency and extensive diagnostics. These sensors coupled with Endress+Hauser’s Proline 400 transmitters give the operator a complete flow metering solution.

For many years, operators in process industries have relied on ultrasonic clamp-on devices for efficient flow monitoring. This trend continues to this day, but with a greater need for instrument data. The Prosonic Flow W 400 addresses these greater expectations by providing reliable process measurement parameters and a great deal of additional, important information.

The Prosonic Flow W 400 operates by utilising a non-intrusive, clamp-on measurement method, with the ultrasonic sensors mounted directly on the outside of the pipe. This provides safe, precise and dependable measurements of many fluids, unfettered by their conductivity or other properties. This flowmeter is therefore an ideal choice in a wide variety of processes as it can reliably monitor corrosive, abrasive, and toxic fluids.

Installing these instruments causes no interruption to piping or process flow, so they can be easily used for retrofitting at any time. These flowmeters are suited to both low- or high-pressure applications, on pipes sizes ranging from an inch in diameter up to 160 inches, such as those ubiquitous in water distribution networks.

This wide size range is a great depiction of the Prosonic Flow W 400’s versatility. This device can measure flow, monitor processes, verify previously installed flowmeters, detect pipeline leaks, so it is the ideal choice for a multitude of tasks and applications.

The instrument’s IP68 Type 6P submergence-rated ultrasonic sensors provide users with long-term and reliable operation, with little maintenance required. They are therefore ideal for deployment in harsh process and ambient conditions, and can work in temperatures ranging from –40 to 266 °F. (-40 to 165°C)

Web server eases flowmeter installation and operation
The Proline 400 transmitter features an integrated web server, operators can therefore access process, diagnostic, configuration, and other data generated by the instrument through any laptop, smartphone, or tablet that can host a web browser.

The Proline 400 gives operators targeted parameterisation of measuring points, whilst saving time during commissioning, maintenance, and service. The instrument’s LCD display and web-based operating tool both show real-time measurement quality, whether it is good, acceptable, or bad, to give the user important status information at a glance.

FlowDC function enables high level performance of flowmeter despite flow disturbance
Process piping systems are beset with multiple fittings and elbows that hinder the flow profile as well as the level of precision of ultrasonic flow measurements. This can be overcome by taking up the option to combine the Prosonic Flow W 400 with the Endress + Hauser FlowDC function, which detects and compensates the effects of these disturbances in flow. Choosing this option will ensure accurate measurements even in situations where there is a short pipe inlet run – ie when considerably reduced from standard 15 pipe diameters down to 2. Endress + Hauser’s FlowDC therefore significantly enhances flexibility when installing clamp-on flowmeters to new or retrofitted systems.

Increasing flowmeter measurement integrity in a Heartbeat
Heartbeat Technology is a testing function that has been built into all Endress+Hauser Proline instruments. It provides the operator with instrumentation self-diagnostics, as well as traceable measurement verification during operation. Heartbeat Technology enhances measurement integrity by monitoring the instrument for changes to its electronics and sensors caused by harsh environmental or process conditions.

A flowmeter for almost any application
Prosonic Flow W 400 can be installed on a wide variety of different types of pipe and materials with or without lining, including metals such as steel or cast iron, l plastic, glass-fibre, reinforced plastic, and composite materials. A maintenance-free contact medium, known as a coupling pad, gives the end-user the best possible sound transmission between sensor surface and pipe; the ensuing high signal strength leads to stable and precise measurements and long-term reliability. These devices are available with multiple ultrasonic frequencies ranging from 0.3 to 5 MHz, optimised for to suit every application pipe size, pipe material, and liquid.
