Government instructions 'will motivate people to reduce wastewater'

Specific instructions on how to reduce household wastewater could help UK citizens feel more motivated to preserve natural resources, according to one environmental expert.

A spokesperson for environmental charity Waste Watch said that any method which helps people realise it is important not to squander water should be applauded.

Her comments follow the launch of a new awareness campaign by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Entitled Act on CO2, the promotion started on September 24th 2009 and seeks to increase awareness of how households can save 20 litres of water a day.

"It's basically saying that everybody can make a difference by doing those simple actions by turning the water off when they're cleaning their teeth or washing up in a bowl rather than leaving the tap running," stated the representative.

She added that the motive of any government-backed campaign is to try to alter opinions and behaviours.
