Tender Won for Canadian Weather Radar Replacement
Sep 12 2016
Selex ES GmbH (Germany) has been awarded a major contract by Environment and Climate Change Canada to replace approximately two-thirds of the Government of Canada’s (GOC) current weather radar network.
The contract has a total value of 83 million Canadian dollars and includes the supply and installation of twenty S-Band Klystron weather radar systems along with associated infrastructure, the supply of appropriate spare parts, project management, training and documentation services, and specialised professional services. Furthermore, the agreement with Environment and Climate Change Canada includes the option to supply up to thirteen additional weather radar systems along with infrastructure and installation. Work is soon to commence and to be completed by spring 2023.
The contract for the Canadian Weather Radar Replacement Solution is the largest weather radar contract award for Selex ES GmbH in the 60-year history of the company. “We are extremely happy and honored to have been selected. The award of this contract demonstrates a high level of confidence in the ability of Selex ES GmbH to provide the most advanced technical solutions at a competitive price”, said Ulrich Nellen, Managing Director of Selex ES GmbH. “Including the options, the contract guarantees a capacity utilisation of 20% for the next seven years. A solid base, but there is still room for more”, he added with a smile.
Selex ES GmbH was awarded the contract by Environment and Climate Change Canada after an international public solicitation process which involved stiff competition among several companies. The contract award procedure was based on the selection of the Best Overall Proposal, with 70% of the evaluation weighting given to technical requirements. Selex ES GmbH’s world-class radar technology and its track record in terms of quality, performance, reliability and life cycle support provided assurance that the company will be able to successfully undertake and deliver on this project, which involves technological complexity and stringent requirements for operation in challenging Canadian environments.
Selex ES GmbH is proud to have been awarded this contract in competition against a pool of international providers, attesting to its outstanding capabilities in weather radar technology and serving to elevate its brand globally as the leader in the weather radar market.
