24-Hour Noise & Dust Monitoring at City of London Demolition Site

When 24-hour real-time monitoring of noise and dust levels was required by Keltbray, the UK’s leading specialist engineering, construction, decommissioning and environmental services business, the Boundary Guardian from Casella (UK) – global specialist in occupational health and environmental risk management solutions –  was considered the best solution for the job.

Altin Lleshi, Safety, Health & Environment Advisor with Keltbray, explains: “We were working on a project at Mitre House in the City of London in close proximity to a private educational institution, where the dust and noise associated with the deconstruction work we were carrying out had to be carefully managed.”

He continues: “This required real time 24-hour monitoring. We chose the Casella Boundary Guardian because it has some new features such as local alarms and emails that inform us when dust or noise limits are exceeded, plus a dedicated website for viewing real time and historical data from the unit.”

“What’s more”, Altin concludes: “The Local Authority Environmental Health Officer welcomed the use of the Boundary Guardian because the versatility of the monitor helped us to achieve full environmental compliance.”

Mounted on a pole above the hoarding level, as agreed with the City of London, the Boundary Guardian is easy to operate and requires minimal training.

It is the first simultaneous multi parameter monitor for dust, noise, wind speed and wind direction in the UK from a single manufacturer.

Featuring an IEC61672-1 compliant sound level meter, proven dust measurement technology and a maintenance-free wind speed and direction sensor, it provides accurate, reliable data in harsh outdoor environments, and helps to ensure that conditions that are likely to cause adverse health effects are reduced or eradicated.

By accessing a private log-in on dedicated website, www.dataview247.com, Keltbray engineers are able to extract data and produce reports wherever they are, at any time of day or night.

According to Keltbray, which also uses Casella’s CEL 633 real time sound level meter, CEL 490 sound level meter and Microdust Pro dust monitor on other demolition and construction sites, the Boundary Guardian “is proving to be cost effective, extremely accurate, reliable and very easy to use”.
