Heathrow Airport Provided with 50 Noise Monitoring Terminals
Aug 31 2016
Brüel & Kjær (UK) today announced it has contracted with Heathrow Airport to deliver, install and service 50 new noise monitoring terminals. The units will increase Heathrow’s noise monitoring capacity and expand its leading-edge noise abatement program.
A mix of Permanent and Portable terminals will provide unattended sound level monitoring to accurately and reliably measure, record, process, store and transmit noise data to Heathrow’s Airport Noise and Operations Management system, ANOMS. The portable terminals will be used to deliver continuous noise monitoring for shorter-term projects. Both types are specifically designed for continuous outdoor use.
The terminals accurately measure real-time noise levels, working as an important part of Heathrow’s complete noise management solution. The units will automatically transfer trusted data that can provide noise impact insights to both airport decision makers and the community.
Matt Gorman, Heathrow Director of Sustainability and Environment said: “These monitors will allow Heathrow and our local residents to better understand the impact of aircraft noise in local areas. New monitors, along with other noise reduction steps, like fitting quiet technology to A320s and establishing a voluntary Quiet Night Charter, will help us be a better neighbour to our communities.”
“Heathrow’s new noise monitoring terminals will work seamlessly with the airport’s existing Brüel & Kjær noise management and community engagement solutions,” said Airport Product Manager Matthew Barry. “We’re delighted to continue helping Heathrow work toward achieving its commitments to the community.”
