Noise Kit Simplifies Assessment
Apr 14 2009
Because some workers are constantly on the move, some noise exposure assessments are more accurate if taken with a personally worn, noise dosimeter. Other staff members ‘stay put’ for the whole shift and in this case, a hand-held sound level meter is more appropriate. Since, most organisations have workers doing both types of job profile, Casella CEL (UK) has developed an Occupational Health and Safety Noise Kit with both a sound level meter and noise dosimeter.
The CEL-620 sound level meter and the innovative CEL-350 dBadge noise dosimeter are perfect for health and safety professionals wishing to make risk assessments. The CEL-620 is the world’s smallest, colour screen octave band analyser with a display that gives results on a clear colour-coded display; it is probably one of easiest to use too! Simplicity of use was a key design objective for this instrument and all measurements from simple ‘point and shoot’ readings to full industrial hygiene assessments can be performed without the need for special training. The CEL-620 can measure up to 140dB without adjusting its range and measures all occupational noise parameters simultaneously without the need to manually reset. Dosimeters have to be small, rugged and reliable and the CEL-350 dBadge is all three. It weighs in at a mere 68 grams and needing no microphone cable, this unobtrusive device can be simply worn and forgotten. It measures all occupational noise parameters, as well as the time history of an individual’s noise exposure, throughout the day. The dBadge uses integral NiMH batteries which give 32 hours of continuous operation from a 90 minute charge and has an integral graphic display for status information and ongoing interrogation of noise exposure results. “These products present the next generation of workplace noise monitors,” said Tim Turney, Product Manager for Casella CEL. “They are all-digital, DSP based and different from anything else on the market. Both are incredibly simple to use even with the real-time octave band analyser, which is a must for the selection of appropriate hearing protection.’Digital Edition
