Noise Monitoring
New Low Cost Noise Nuisance Recorder
May 17 2012
Stealth, the new low cost Noise Nuisance Recorder (NNR) from Casella CEL (UK), is designed to make it as simple as possible for Local Authorities to monitor complaints about noisy neighbours.
Specialists in the development, manufacture and supply of industrial hygiene, occupational health and environmental monitoring instrumentation, Casella CEL has been mindful of tight budgets and limited public funding in order to manufacture a product that is competitively priced in the market place.
Says Casella CEL Market Manager Tim Turney: “Our new Stealth NNR unit is very small and concealed in its own shoulder bag, limits the chances of noise perpetrators noticing any monitoring activity taking place in adjacent properties.”
Tim continues: “It also could not be easier to set up or to use in a complainant’s property. We have developed a ‘Walk Through’ menu system designed for operators with little or no experience of acoustic instruments.”
Using Casella CEL’s enhanced CEL-630 Series Sound Level Meter technology in a special ‘NNR mode’, the Stealth NNR performs specifically as a Noise Nuisance Recorder rather than a sound level meter. Consequently, no configuration is required and all parameters are measured simultaneously, including logging of the time history for later analysis.
After calibration, a voice note may be recorded and once complete the measurement automatically begins, therefore ensuring that no steps are missed during the process and preventing incorrect set-up of the instrument.
With up to 60 hours of audio recording, incorporating a pre- and post-trigger feature to validate legitimate complaints, the Stealth NNR is expected to become a popular addition to Environmental Health and Housing departments throughout the land.
Casella Insight Data Management Software, which provides an easy-to-use but advanced platform with which to download and analyse data, and to store measurements according to location or complainant, is provided on a complimentary basis with any purchase of a CEL-630 Series kit.
This facility allows time history of measures to be shown in a graph format, clearly indicating points at which audio has been recorded. The audio can then be played back and traced together with a profile of the measured sound pressure levels.
