New Personal Electronic Dosimeters Released
Feb 03 2015
Tracerco (UK) has increased its range of award-winning radiation monitors with the release of a new collection of Personal Electronic Dosimeters (PEDs).
With the launch of the new PED Blue and PED+ devices, the leading industrial technology specialist will now have a solution for whichever radiation monitoring task needs completing.
Andy Hurst, the Managing Director of Tracerco, commented: "This new range of monitors will allow monitoring activities to be undertaken across a broad range of environments safely, easily and accurately. It is another example of Tracerco listening to the market and developing products that meet industry needs.”
Here’s a look at the two new devices in more detail, as well as the PED-IS device which was the original dosimeter from Tracerco.
PED Blue
The PED Blue device has a very portable design, weighing ten per cent less than the PED-IS.
DoseVision software is used in the PED Blue, which makes it a perfect device for first responders as well as those working in medical and life sciences, industrial and nuclear fields. The device is also ideally suited to use in Non-Destructive Testing.
When it comes to recharging the PED Blue device, a direct micro USB connection is all that’s required — no need for a charging dock.
PED+
One of the standout features of the PED+ is the fact it comes complete with an alarm and pop-up message system. As a result, procedures can be clearly communicated to a user — great when establishing a safe exclusion zone around an incident, for instance.
The device also supports a mobile Bluetooth application, which means that an overview of up to seven other PED+ gadgets can be obtained from within a 15-metre radius.
With these design aspects in mind, the PED+ comes in handy as both a handheld dose rate survey meter and a personal dosimeter.
PED-IS
Those working with emergency services will find plenty of use in the PED-IS device, as it can be used for measuring radiation exposure in potentially explosive environments. Specialists in the oil and gas sector, as well as those based in nuclear and mining environments, will also benefit from having the gadget in their possession.
By being designed with the intuitive software, DoseVision, the PED-IS is an attractive device even for those who have not received any specialist training in radiation exposure measurements.
Looking at all three devices, Mr Hurst added: "What we have achieved through good design and consideration for the users of the device, is a family of Personal Dosimeters with mass market appeal globally. The real selling point of our monitors is that they are easy to use and understand."
