Cancer Research UK Chosen as Charity Partner
Mar 31 2013
As Casella Measurement (UK) launches its new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy, it is particularly apt that the specialist in occupational health and environmental monitoring equipment has chosen Cancer Research UK as its charity partner, since use of the company’s dust measuring devices play an important part in the fight against lung cancer.
The link with the charity is also seen as a fitting legacy in memory of Gary Noakes, a key member of the Casella team who sadly passed away from cancer in 2012, aged just 51.
Ben Henson, General Manager at Casella said: “We wanted to offer our time, energy and fundraising efforts to a worthwhile cause that is close to everyone’s hearts. Unfortunately cancer affects everyone’s lives and as a team we too have felt its devastating effects.”
Casella’s work in the occupational health industry highlights the importance of research into the prevention of occupational diseases, such as cancer. The organisation’s workplace measurement equipment helps to fight to reduce the effect of external influences on cancer such as dust.
Ben adds: “We hope that our planned programme of fund raising activities will also help Cancer Research UK to tackle the internal variants that could lead to cancer, especially in their DNA based research.”
Cancer Research UK pioneers life-saving research to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. The work of this and other charities has led to the chances of survival doubling in the last 40 years.
During the next year staff at Casella will be getting involved in all sorts of fundraising events from senior management car washes and fun runs to fancy dress days and cake bake sales in order to raise valuable funds for this important cause.
Victoria Goldsmith, Cancer Research UK’s Area Volunteer Manager for Bedford, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Casella have decided to fundraise for Cancer Research UK.
Victoria added: “Cancer Research UK has made enormous progress in the fight against cancer and continues to do so. However, we have only been able to do this thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and supporters without whom we would not be able to fund our vital research.”
