WWF releases ten New Year resolutions for a healthy planet
Jan 04 2012
The World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) has released ten New Year resolutions in an attempt to change personal attitudes towards climate change.
The UK is one of the world's biggest consumers of natural resources, and personal waste of energy and food is contributing heavily to greenhouse gas emissions. With this in mind, the WWF has released tips on how to personally combat climate problems.
Eating a healthy, sustainable diet that cuts carbon emissions is first on their list, promoting the five Livewell principles. Eating more plant-based foods and reducing the amount of processed foods consumed are considered important in tackling climate change, as well as cutting food waste and choosing sustainability certified ingredients.
Monitoring our personal carbon progress can be a key motivator and also a wake-up call to spur us into action. There are several footprint calculators available, such as the WWF's that can be found on their website.
You can help to save the rainforest by buying wood from sustainable sources, support sustainable fish instead of buying over-caught fish and support the WWF in putting pressure of political parties to change policy and encourage environment change.
As well as this, installing loft insulation and cutting the amount of petrol you use, by driving a flying less can make a significant contribution on a personal level.
