Groundwater monitoring
New mini version of low-pressure groundwater well packer
Nov 15 2021
Solinst Canada Ltd. have just launched a mini version of their highly successful Model 800 Low Pressure Pneumatic Packer. Solinst’s packers provide the perfect solution for short term groundwater monitoring applications, such as temporarily isolating discrete zones in wells or boreholes.
The 1 foot long, Model 800M Mini Low Pressure Pneumatic Packer was designed to fit in 2" OD monitoring wells. The 800M packers are available in single or straddle set-ups. The 800M is low cost, user-friendly and extremely portable – every hydrogeologist should carry one!
The compact, Model 800M Mini's lightweight (1.2 lbs.) design weighs in at a lowly 1.2 lbs (just under 550 grammes) so minimal weight is added when they are connected to a Solinst pump for isolated low flow groundwater sampling applications. The 800M is also the perfect answer for isolating groundwater-sampling zones in order to lower purge volumes. These packers are also ideal when multiple, shorter well intervals need to be isolated, for example: during aquifer testing. The 800M is also an excellent tool for performing falling head permeability (K) tests.
The packers are easy to lower down wells using a drop pipe or a suspension cable, such as Solinst’s Model 103 Tag Line. Solinst Packers are made up of a gland of black carbon reinforced rubber (BCR), which expands on a SCH 80 PVC body. An inner pipe, within the PVC body, is used to lower instruments through. Model 800M Mini Packers inflated by hand pump and made for pneumatic inflation pressure of up to 30 psi.
The standard Model 800 also comes in 1.8" and 3.9" diameters in longer lengths, and are suited for use in 2" and 4" monitoring wells or smooth boreholes and wells with inside diameters measuring 1.9" - 5".
