Gas detection
An advanced and user friendly solution for detecting the smallest leaks in drinking water distribution systems
Mar 24 2025
The protection of water resources has become an ever-more urgent priority, and detecting leaks in drinking water distribution systems is essential for minimising water loss. Acoustic detection methods are commonly used for this purpose, but they often fall short when identifying the smallest leaks. Gas leak detection using forming gas, a mixture of 5% hydrogen and 95% nitrogen, presents a highly effective and economical alternative.
The OLLI Tracer Gas detector from Esders is an advanced solution for leak detection in drinking water pipes, household installations, and heating and cooling systems. It is also widely applied in the automotive industry to identify leaks in air conditioning systems. The technique involves introducing forming gas into an operational water pipe. As hydrogen is lighter than air, it rises and escapes through leaks, where it can be easily detected using a probe and the OLLI Tracer Gas detector.
Designed for practicality and precision, the OLLI Tracer Gas detector is housed in a robust and ergonomic plastic casing, ensuring durability even in harsh conditions. It includes an integrated pump with an approximate flow rate of 20 l/h, facilitating efficient gas sampling. The OLLI Tracer Gas Detector boasts an extensive operating time more than 35 hours, depending on ambient conditions, and weight in at a light 380 grams. High-contrast LCD graphics, with backlighting ensures excellent visibility of measured values, while intuitive menu navigation simplifies operation. Additionally, sophisticated filter technology enhances performance, and Bluetooth connectivity enables seamless data transfer.
