Syft Wins Further Tender with the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service
Feb 16 2010
Syft Technologies (New Zealand), producer of advanced analytical solutions for the Container Air Testing and Security Sector has signed a further contract with the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (Customs and Border Protection). This contract covers the supply and maintenance of three Voice200® instruments to the Customer Container Examination facilities (CEFs), in the ports of Sydney, Brisbane and
Melbourne.
The tender was issued earlier in the year. Following Syft being granted preferred supplier status, a comprehensive technical evaluation by an independent scientific group took place in Sydney in July and contract negotiations took place and were formally concluded earlier this month.
The Sydney instrument is already in place and will be commissioned in early October, with the other two instruments to be delivered and commissioned in the fortnight following. Syft specialists will visit each site and provide CEF staff with training on the new features of the Voice200 instruments.
Customs and Border Protection is upgrading the original Voice100™ instruments in their busiest ports and will be re-deploying these three instruments to Launceston, Townsville and Darwin, thereby extending the Customs and Border Protection ownership of Syft instruments to eight in total.
All the instruments will be primarily deployed as a continued Health and Safety initiative, ensuring the safety of Customs and Border Protection officers by measuring the levels of toxic gases in containers arriving into Australia – fumigated to eliminate threat to Australia’s agricultural based economies.
