Environmental Laboratory
The extraction system specifically designed for environmental applications
Mar 13 2019
Every day environmental laboratories analyzes a long list of contaminants in soils, sediments, wastes and other solids matrices. Although, chromatography instruments have been substantial improved, the extraction process is still today the bottleneck and the most time-consuming procedure. By looking at the routine process of several contract laboratories around the world and to address their extraction challenges we specifically designed and developed the ETHOS X powered by fastEX-24 extraction rotor.
Key Benefits:
- High productivity. 24 samples in 40 minutes.
- Low running cost. Substantial reduction in solvent.
- Ease of use. Disposable glass vials.
- Larger sample amount. Up to 30 grams.
- Compliance. Fully compliant with US EPA Method 3546.
- Reliability. Consistent and reproducible results.

Based on the requirements of official methods such as the US EPA and the ASTM, the ETHOS X with fastEX-24 allows environmental labs to accomplish a wide variety of extraction procedure to analyses Semivolatile organics, PCBs, PAHs, Phenols, Pesticides, herbicides and Dioxins and furans.
This new configuration consists of a 24-position carousel, which holds large pressure vessels made of Weflon an innovative and unique material. The WeflonTM material facilitates homogeneous heating, which in combination with an accurate contactless temperature sensor, control the extraction process in all vessels. Each Weflon vessel holds 100 mL disposable glass vials allowing you to use up to 30 g samples. The use of disposable glass completely removes the cleaning step and eliminates memory effects, ensuring high quality of extraction and higher productivity. The typical extraction process uses only 30 mL of solvents and it offers simultaneous extraction of 24 samples in 40 minutes.

Multiple technologies are often present in an environmental lab, but all have some limitations due to the high running costs, low productivity, high solvent consumption and cumbersome cleaning cycles. With low solvent consumption and high productivity, the ETHOS X reduces the cost per analysis for the extraction of environmental pollutants from solid matrices.

In an environmental extraction lab often the turnaround time for sample is very limited, therefore the need of a tool that provides fast extraction and high reliability is fundamental. The unique design of the fastEX-24 rotor with its large volume disposable glass vials simplify the extraction process and reduce the handling involved, ensuring high throughput. The instrument reliability and rugged construction with its ease of use and low running cost lead to a powerful and useful extraction tool in many environmental labs. The implementation of the method is fast and easier as it is based on the US EPA method, allowing the lab to quickly adopt this approach in their routine analysis.
