Ion science to show range of patented minipid sensors for fast detection of volatile organic compounds

Ion Science - one of the leading manufacturers of gas sensor for detection of VOC’s in key applications such as, occupational health and environmental monitoring – will be highlighting its complete range of high performance MiniPID sensors for both fixed and portable instruments at Sensor & Test in Germany. In particular, the company will be focusing on its ground-breaking MiniPID 2 high sensitive (HS) sensor which has been specially developed in response to the growing demand for reliable and accurate detection of a wide range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at extremely low levels.

Ion Science’s MiniPID 2 HS is 15 times more sensitive than the company’s existing MiniPID 2 parts per billion (ppb) sensor. It is capable of detecting trace levels of VOCs over a long period of time making it ideal for air quality monitoring applications.

Exposure to hazardous substances at work is a major contributor to ill health, and the loss to companies through absence and litigation is enormous. However, through continuous monitoring the problem can be identified and the indoor air quality can be significantly improved by installing appropriate air ventilation and filtration systems.

The introduction of the MiniPID 2 HS provides an effective opportunity to introduce extremely low level VOC detection. It also gives stability, control and reliability advantages that are not available in other PID designs.

It is also well suited to clean rooms, fence line monitoring, industrial hygiene, site soil and air sampling, fugitive emissions, volatile spills, law enforcement and emergency response.

Delivering a dependable response to thousands of VOCs across many diverse applications, the MiniPID 2 HS is a simple plug and play sensor providing a wide detection range of 0.5 ppb up to 4 parts per million (ppm).

Ion Science’s MiniPID 2 HS also features a re-designed, pneumatically sealed electrode stack for high sensitivity. An innovative self-diagnostic feature indicates whether the electrode stack is contaminated or if the sensor is not operating correctly.

The HS sensor model incorporates as standard Ion Science’s recently launched long-life eV lamp that offers 10,000 hours continuous operation which represents a proven 60% increase in life span. Together with exceptional brightness and improved stability, this facilitates more accurate measurement during long-term continuous monitoring applications.

Like Ion Science’s other sensors, MiniPID 2 HS incorporates patented Fence Electrode Technology for industry leading humidity resistant performance and anti-contamination design. This helps ensure protection from moisture, dust and aerosols for more accurate and reliabe detection of VOCs in challengingenvironments.

Amongst the other benefits offered by Ion Science’s MiniPID 2 HS sensor are its low running current, robust lamp illumination, reliable operation at extreme temperatures and ease of serviceability.

The MiniPID 2 HS is designed for both diffusive and pumped sampling, delivering an exceptional response time and clear down. It boasts intrinsically safe certification and is ATEX, IECEx, II 1G Ex ia IIC T4 Ga accredited.

Ion Science will also be showing its standard MiniPID 2 sensor which incorporates an innovative self-diagnostic feature that indicates whether the lamp is failing to illuminate or the electrode stack is contaminated. All Ion Science 10.6 eV and 10 eV MiniPID instruments now incorporate the latest long life lamp design as standard.

Science’s MiniPID 2 offers a raft of benefits, including improved temperature stability, greater sensor-to-sensor consistency and more repeatable performance. Typical applications for MiniPID 2 include personnel safety, industrial hygiene, site soil and air sampling, fugitive emissions and volatile spills, law enforcement and emergency response.

Ion Science’s MiniPID 2 is available in four variants: The PPM MiniPID 2 is used for wide range, ppm measurements between 0.1 and 6000ppm (isobutylene equivalent) and is configured specifically for dynamic response to VOCs at elevated concentrations. The PPB MiniPID 2 is used for high sensitivity in the ppb range with a minimum detection limit of 1ppb.

The 10.0eV MiniPID 2 is used for the enhanced selectivity of compounds with lower ionisation potentials. A common use of this model is for the determination of ambient levels of aromatic compounds.

The 11.7eV MiniPID 2 has a 11.7eV lamp which extends the range of detectable compounds to include chlorocarbons, CFCs, formaldehyde and chlorine amongst others.

Ion Science’s MiniPID 2 sensor technology is incorporated within its full range of fixed and portable gas detection instrumentation, such as the popular Tiger handheld PID, Cub personal PID, Titan fixed continuous benzene specific monitor and Falco fixed continuous VOC detector.

Available with a 12-month warranty, Ion Science’s patented PID sensor technology is trusted by major gas detection manufacturers across the world.
