Essential Environment 2014/15 Edition 36 now available in Amazon for Kindle
Oct 27 2014
This book was created as a comprehensive guide to UK and EU environmental protection legislation expected to be in force by mid-2014. Previously called the Pollution Control Handbook, this indispensable guide has been providing those working within the environmental field with annually updated information on pollution control and environmental protection legislation for over 30 years. While it focuses on the UK and Devolved Administrations of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, it also includes relevant EU legislation and international agreements that are deemed beneficial to professionals.
In a foreword by The Rt Hon Lord Whitty PC, Vice President, Environmental Protection UK, he acknowledges the growing demand for goods and services and that the inevitable globalisation of markets brings with it the problems of increasing pollution. As our views have become more environmentally aware, businesses cannot afford to be regarded as ‘polluters’ and want to be deemed as ‘green’ (or at least responsible) to promote a sustainable environment. People want to live in a clean and healthy environment whilst also enjoying the benefits that processes and products bring, making for a trying balance. This guide aims to address the challenges to both regulator and those regulated associated with adhering to the vastly increased volume of environmental rules and regulations, by providing access to information enabling us to measure and control our pollution potential.
This guide takes readers from the early pollution control measures that were enacted due to the Industrial Revolution and the concept of ‘Best Practicable Means’ and proceeds to examine topics such as the formal establishment of independent regulatory agencies to better manage environmental protection at regional level; emissions to air - including radiation and smoke control; climate change and air quality - such as the ozone layer diminution; transport pollution - in the form of road, rail and air; noise management - from environmental to neighbourhood; local environment quality - involving public and private nuisance and litter controls; waste management - including strategies, landfill and hazardous waste; agriculture - incorporating pesticides and GMOs; land quality; water pollution - containing flood risk, drinking water and marine life protection; access to environmental information; and much more.
Essential Environment was compiled and edited by Loveday Murley, formerly produced by Environmental Protection UK (EPUK), for whom Loveday worked for over 20 years with responsibility for the editing and production of all their publications, and published by International Labmate. EPUK’s membership includes local government, environmental agencies and a diverse range of industries and institutions, thus making it a leading body for environmental awareness.
