Japan Pavilion Participates Once Again at Eco Expo Asia 2014

Renowned as the region’s most international trade exhibition for green business, Eco Expo Asia has gathered some of the world’s foremost experts in green technology for its ninth edition. Taking place from 29 October – 1 November at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong, the show is once again jointly organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council with co-organisation by the Environment Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

With Eco Expo Asia’s ability to attract government officials, quality buyers and commercial enterprises from across Asian regions, a number of international pavilions have already confirmed their involvement for this year’s show.

2014 marks the second consecutive year that the Japanese pavilion has participated at the Eco Expo Asia. The show has demonstrated itself as one of the most successful platforms for effectively connecting green businesses. Mr Hiroshi Onomura, Director General of JETRO Hong Kong, expressed: “Eco Expo Asia 2013 was a great success for Japanese firms to meet with global buyers and interact with government officials from across the Asian region. Through our repeated participation, JETRO aims to aid Japanese firms to enter the foreign markets while at the same time create business opportunities for overseas companies who are interested in investing with Japanese companies.”

In conjunction with the Japanese pavilion’s repeated participation, Korea and the Netherlands Pavilions will make their first presence at the 2014 show. The maturity of the green-tech solutions market in the Netherlands has led Dutch enterprises to expand their businesses into emerging markets in terms of green-tech solutions such as Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and other Asian countries.

Mr Wilfred Mohr, Consul General, Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as well as the pavilion organiser expressed: “The Netherlands Pavilion at the 2014 show aims to tap into the Asian market by showcasing our innovative waste management solutions. Some of the solutions presented this year include policy, integrated waste management systems, recycling, regulatory and economic instruments. Under the agreement of the Letter of Intent signed between the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Environment Bureau, Hong Kong SAR Government in 2013, the two governments will work more closely in addressing waste related environmental challenges in Hong Kong. To put this agreement to practice, we have organised a series of trade events in Hong Kong to promote our state-of-the-art waste management technology since early 2014. In conclusion, I think Eco Expo Asia is a good platform that will really help to facilitate Dutch firms in entering the Asian market.”

Due to ongoing urbanisation, the demand for green technologies and solutions is expected to remain high within the Asia Pacific region. The increasing popularity of the show has sparked interest for the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI). As a quasi-government organisation, KEITI’s goal is to improve living standards for citizens and to advance the nation’s economic development.

KEITI is optimistic the exhibitor feedback from the first-ever Korea Pavilion at the 2014 show will be positive. Mr Yong-Joo Kim, President of KEITI expressed: “Over the years, green technology in Korea has been developing at a stellar pace. With a good track record in producing efficient and reliable products, Korean firms have started to make great efforts into emerging markets, such as the Chinese mainland. This year, we have encouraged Korean firms with the ‘New Excellent Technology Certification' and 'Green Technology Certification' to expand into global markets through Eco Expo Asia. I believe the show will serve as an excellent platform for Korean companies to connect with government officials, quality buyers as well as those who are interested in investing in the Korean market.”

In addition to the international pavilions, exhibitors from Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, the Chinese mainland, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan have also confirmed their participation at the 2014 show.

With a number of pressing environmental challenges worldwide, Eco Expo Asia 2014 aims to be a holistic platform that offers greener solutions to companies and individuals.
