Extraction and Evaporation – Innovative Solutions from Büchi
Mar 23 2010
Innovative techniques for the determination of analytes in environmental and food matrices in the trace and ultra-trace range are one of the main challenges of chemists nowadays. Büchi (Switzerland) offers excellent solutions for extraction and evaporation in environmental analysis: SpeedExtractor and Syncore® Analyst.
Büchi’s new SpeedExtractor offers an efficient solid/liquid extraction method, using high temperature and pressure to accelerate the extraction process and to reduce the solvent consumption. With its parallel format up to six samples can be extracted simultaneously within approximately 20 to 40 minutes. The SpeedExtractor also distinguishes itself by its user-friendliness. The desired method is loaded, then the extraction cells are sealed automatically and, at the push of a button, six samples are extracted. This provides a high degree of safety and eliminates handling errors. The SpeedExtractor’s flexibility is unique as well: Temperature range of 50-200°C, pressure range of 50-150 bar, extraction cell size of 10-120 ml, and an integrated step for rinsing into a separate waste container.
Buchi impresses with intelligent laboratory solutions which create an optimised process flow. The SpeedExtractor’s parallel format is ideally complemented by the parallel evaporator Syncore® Analyst. This paired system allows for collection vessels to be transferred directly and therefore without any sample loss, and to be concentrated in parallel to pre-defined residual volumes. The key feature of the Syncore® Analyst is an integrated cooling zone which stores the sample in a cooled environment. High recovery rates are achieved with the ultimate Flushback Module that gently rinses the glass walls during operation with the solvent being evaporated. The risk of crosscontamination is eliminated by an individual sample sealing system and by separated vacuum channels. Efficient and parallel concentration in less than one hour and the reduction of environmental impact due to solvent recovery make the Syncore® Analyst the system of choice for concentration down to pre-defined residual volumes in trace and ultra-trace analysis.
