Welsh landfill site 'almost full'

Jan 08 2009

The Welsh Assembly needs to present a viable way of disposing of waste in South Wales as a local landfill site nears the end of its use, it has been claimed.

According to the Western Mail, authorities in South Wales have been pressing the issue with the Assembly as space at the Lamby Way landfill site becomes more scarce.

Representative for the local authorities Coun Berman claimed that the Assembly has not yet proposed any viable solutions to the problem, which presents problems when it comes to larger considerations, such as EU regulations.

"There has been a huge amount of work involved in ensuring that the full due diligence has been done for this key project," a spokesperson for the Assembly stated.

Meanwhile, neighbouring Ireland has been warned that it should decrease its dependence on landfill sites by the editor of Science Spin magazine Sean Duke.
