Tesco 'already diverting 100% waste from landfill'
Aug 11 2009
Despite agreeing three years ago to explore ways of rerouting all of its waste from landfill by 2010, the supermarket chain has achieved its target well before the deadline due to its implementation of efficient waste management services and measures such as recycling.
Lucy Neville-Rolfe, executive director at Tesco, said that climate change is now the biggest challenge confronting the world and companies have a duty to provide leadership.
"Tesco understands the value of developing new technology, which is why we helped launch the Sustainable Consumption Institute with a grant of £25 million last year," she said.
The retail giant appears to have surpassed even its own recent predictions, as it said in May of this year that it was on track to divert just 95 per cent of its waste from landfill by the end of 2010.
