Power station plans 'to be approved' following environmental analysis

A permit looks set to be issued for a proposed power station in Pembrokeshire, following an extensive process of environmental analysis in the area.

The Environment Agency has insisted it is happy the RWE npower complex meets the "tough standards" it has set regarding its impact on air and water quality in Milford Haven.

It is thought the plant will not have a major effect on the Pembrokeshire Marine Special Area of Conservation.

Area manager for Environment Agency Wales Steve Brown stated that this region was one of the "most important and environmentally sensitive" in the whole country.

"We are now keen to hear the views of others on our draft decision and will listen to any relevant views and take these into account," he added.

Yesterday (June 20th 2011), the Agency revealed that a study into the mass cockle deaths seen in the Burry Inlet in 2008 will not be published on time, as researchers have encountered difficulties in analysing the findings.
