Investment in renewable energy sources 'crucial to meet green targets'
Dec 10 2010
Renewable UK's Louise Jennings has said that money from the private and public sector is needed in order to fund the use of more green technologies.
"If we are to deploy renewable energy on the scale needed to reduce our carbon emissions then technology costs must fall," she stated.
"Significantly ramping up investment is the only way to do this."
Ms Jennings noted that money should come from private investors, as well as utility companies and the government.
If finances are put into renewable energy systems, the environmental analysis expert said that targets to resource 15 per cent of the UK's power from green sources by 2020 could be met.
Ms Jennings' comments were compounded by the statement the Department for Energy and Climate Change made at the beginning of the year, revealing that the UK offshore wind industry is the largest in the world.
