Environmental legislation to cut FITs 'will harm solar industry'

The government's environmental legislation to reduce the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme will damage the solar industry, it has been said.

Last month, it was announced that the FIT programme for solar renewable installations over 50kW will be cut.

Solar photovoltaic specialist at the Renewable Energy Association Ray Noble said this move is "absolutely ludicrous".

He stated that the restriction has come at a time when the market has started to develop big projects, killing off the "solar industry to a level where it becomes a cottage industry again".

Mr Noble noted that as well as limiting the development of the green energy sector, this is going to put the jobs of those who work in the field at risk.

He went on to say the "industry will come to a grinding halt", as a result of this environmental analysis decision by the government, which Mr Noble suggests, was based on domestic installation figures and not commercial ones.
