Environmental legislation developments 'essential to meet green targets'
Dec 10 2010
According to Gordon Miller, sustainability and communications director for Sustain Worldwide, the government's Green Deal is necessary for the country to reduce its carbon dioxide emission levels by 80 per cent against 1990 levels before 2050.
Yesterday (December 9th 2010), the Department of Energy and Climate Change revealed the Energy Bill, which sets out how the initiative will be implemented and states that customers will be protected from misleading selling practices.
Mr Miller commented that in order for the Green Deal, which encourages people to install energy-efficient measures in their properties, to be successful, more consumers need to have confidence in its financial benefits.
He commented that the public needs to know that the benefits of making these changes "will outweigh the costs".
The environmental analysis expert added that the government's plan to safeguard consumers by making sure installers are accredited is a "potential masterstroke to encourage mass take-up".
