Environmental analysis news: Consumers 'are becoming increasingly energy conscious'

Dec 04 2009

British consumers are increasingly opting for energy efficient products as the drive to halt climate change gathers momentum, an expert has claimed.

A spokesperson for British Eco Energy commented that more and more people are installing renewable energy solutions in their properties.

"Government grants have attracted many customers, with the substantial return on investment and the reduction in bills it provides. It focuses their minds on how they can make a difference to the environment," he said.

As Westminster places increased emphasis on sustainable energy sources, the company predicted that the profile of energy efficient products will be raised.

In October, the Department of Energy and Climate Change announced a raft of measures to help low-income families deal with rising energy costs.

These included a new insulation programme designed to improve the energy efficiency of homes belonging to the poorest citizens - such as pensioners - and "energy makeovers" for some of the most poverty-stricken regions of the country.
