Environmental analysis news: Composting company fined £20,000

Apr 14 2010

A Preston-based firm has been fined and ordered to pay court costs over its failure to comply with an enforcement notice issued by the Environment Agency.

TEG Group PLC pleased guilty to the charge brought against it by the body.

The company had been asked to reduce the amount of waste held on site, in line with the volumes set out it its environmental guidelines.

However, inspections carried out in 2009 revealed that waste limits still exceeded acceptable levels.

Environment Agency spokesman Neil Finch said companies should ensure they comply with all the conditions contained in their permits.

"We worked with TEG Group Plc to try to find an agreed solution to their breaches, but had to take legal action when the site continued to operate outside of their permitted conditions," he added.

In related news, Blackpool Pleasure Beach was recently fined £6,000 for offences relating to the failure to recover and recycle packaging waste.
