Energy changes 'need to be made to help the environment'
Sep 17 2010
Earlier this week, energy secretary Chris Huhne said in a speech to the Green Alliance that action must be taken on saving power.
He stated: "Providing business with a clear analysis of the path to 2050 is the key to securing continued investment in energy and technology."
This, he said, will help the government achieve its targets to reduce carbon emissions by 80 per cent over the next 40 years.
Mr Huhne added that the coalition understands its need to invest in green energy but also recognised that people should make changes in their homes.
He reiterated the government's commitment to boosting the power efficiency of new properties and improving it in existing ones.
Most importantly, Mr Huhne said employing energy efficient methods needed to be "affordable for all".
A report released by the Committee on Climate Change in June 2010 stated that new policies are required in the transport, agriculture and construction sectors to help limit Britain's carbon emissions and meet targets.
