Energy bill environmental legislation 'needs to change'
Jul 14 2010
According to the Fuel Poverty Advisory Group, the government needs to look at ways to invest in energy infrastructure that will not affect the general public by increasing their fuel bills.
It warned that people could expect to pay up to 50 per cent more for their energy consumption with the Green Deal, which will affect the fuel poor the most.
Instead, the group has asked the government to look at other ways to raise the money for renewable energy investment, such as the "significant and regressive sums that will be raised through emissions trading".
Chairman of the Fuel Poverty Advisory Group Derek Lickorish said: "Moves to make England greener shouldn't push the poorest households into the red."
This comes after Renewable UK's Nick Medic said that green energy use will "take off" over the next few years.
