Blackpool Pleasure Beach issued with waste fine
Apr 12 2010
The company was also forced to pay compensation of £9,130 after pleading guilty to six charges brought against them by the Environment Agency.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach had failed to register with the organisation as a producer of packaging waste and to meet the requirements associated with recovering and recycling it.
Environment Agency spokesperson Claire Balmer commented: "The regulations are in place to encourage a reduction in the amount of packaging used by business and to decrease the amount of waste that is sent to landfill."
Businesses who do not fulfil their obligations where packaging regulations are concerned risk charges of up to £15,000 a year.
In related news, a Bristol businessman has been fined £10,000 and ordered to pay costs for allowing a tenant to operate an illegal waste facility from one of his properties.
