Equipment for Cyanide Distillation
Oct 18 2013
International standards for the determination of cyanide (e.g. EPA 9010B "Total an damenable cyanides", ISO 11262 "Cyanide in soil samples", ASTM 355.2 "Cyanide in water samples", etc.) require the preparation of the samples by enrichment and separation, usually called "cyanide distillation".
With behr (Germany) equipment for cyanide distillation the analyst can perform this task in up to 6 sample places at a time. Using a vacuum pump to separate the HCN and collect it in the NaOH solution, behr equipment offers considerable advantages: Conformity to the guidelines; No clamps necessary to fix the joints; No risk of leakage during sample preparation; No escape of HCN; No risk of exposure of hazardous HCN to the laboratory staff.
Magnetic stirrers in each sample position provide for excellent recovery rates and precise analyses. With an additional pH electrode and/or by simply exchanging absorption vessels, the analyst can perform the sample preparation for total cyanide in water, for cyanide in soils and for easily liberatable cyanide in the same behr device.
