Save the date: ICMGP 2019
Jul 19 2018
The 14th International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant (ICMGP 2019) will be organised in Krakow, Poland from 8 through 13 September, 2019. The theme of ICMGP 2019 is: Bridging knowledge on global mercury with environmental responsibility, human welfare and policy response. Prof. Jozef Pacyna is the Chairman of the Conference.
Considerable scientific knowledge has been developed on sources and emissions of mercury, its pathways and cycling through the environment, human exposure and impacts on human health. This scientific knowledge, obtained through studies carried out in various research centers in all continents, formed the basis for policy makers decision to develop an international agreement on reduction of emissions and exposure to mercury, known as the Minamata Convention. This Convention was signed in 2013 and ratified in 2017 by the parliaments of many countries. Therefore, one of the main topics of the Krakow conference will be the implementation of the objectives defined in the Convention. The ICMGP 2019 will also follow the tradition of previous successful conferences with synthesis, detailed sessions, and presentations on mercury science, technology, management and health. The ICMGP 2019 will also provide the opportunity to discuss the options for low-mercury energy and industrial technologies and then the concept of low-mercury society.
The Conference will gather scientists, policy makers, experts from industry and producers of equipment for mercury emissions reduction and mercury concentrations and exposure monitoring.
Key dates

Themes
How is mercury cycling changing on the global, regional and local scales in response to perturbations caused by major anthropogenic drivers of the environmental change.
What is the relative risk of mercury exposure to human health and wildlife in the context of human welfare?
How can technological development contribute to the reduction of mercury exposure and improvement of environmental responsibility? How will industry achieve more control of Hg emissions, handle waste products, and clean up contaminated site?
How can scientific knowledge contribute to the implementation and effectiveness evaluation of the Minamata Conventions and other regulatory agreements? Importance of integration and implementation of emerging and future mercury research into the policy making.
